OVERVIEW
Tripz ("we", "us", or "the app") is a shared photo album app for groups of friends. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights around that data. By creating an account you agree to this policy.
DATA WE COLLECT
• Account — your name and email address, used to identify you within Tripz. • Photos & Videos — files you upload are stored on Cloudinary (a media hosting service). We do not process or sell your media. • Photo Metadata — when you upload a photo, we may read the date/time it was taken and its GPS coordinates from the file. GPS coordinates are immediately converted to a place name (e.g. "Goa, India") using OpenStreetMap and the raw coordinates are not stored. • Trip & Chat Data — trip names, member lists, dates, chat messages, and expense records you create within the app. • Push Token — if you allow notifications, we store your device push token to send activity alerts for your trips. You can revoke this at any time in your device settings. • Usage Data — we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
• To operate the app — displaying your trips, members, photos, and messages. • To send push notifications — trip activity alerts you have opted into. • To attribute content — showing which member uploaded each photo. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
We use the following services to operate Tripz. Each has its own privacy policy: • Google Firebase — authentication and database (firebase.google.com/support/privacy) • Cloudinary — photo and video storage (cloudinary.com/privacy) • Expo — push notification delivery (expo.dev/privacy) • OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — reverse geocoding of photo GPS data. No personal account is created; only approximate coordinates are sent.
DATA SHARING
Your photos and messages are shared only with members of the same trip. Trip members you invite can see everything in that trip. No content is public by default. Trip invite links can be shared publicly, but joining requires an account.
DATA RETENTION
Your data is retained as long as your account exists. When you delete your account: • Your profile, name, and email are permanently deleted. • Your photos, videos, chat messages, and photo comments are anonymised — the content remains visible to other trip members but is no longer linked to your identity. • Expense and settlement records are retained for group accounting accuracy. Backups may retain data for up to 30 days after deletion.
YOUR RIGHTS
• Access — you can view all your data directly in the app. • Correction — update your name or profile photo in the Profile screen at any time. • Deletion — you can permanently delete your account from the Profile screen. This removes your personal information and anonymises your uploaded content in shared trips. • Notification opt-out — revoke notification permission in your device Settings at any time.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Tripz is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be communicated via an in-app notice. Continued use of Tripz after changes constitutes acceptance.
GRIEVANCE OFFICER
